Midnight Murderama Podcast: Web Copy, Podcast Summary for Show Intro/Social Media Description

Murderama Podcast Website, Web Copy

Client: Midnight Murderama Podcast

Objective: This copy needed to combine the brevity from the one sentence, social media-friendly piece I wrote for this same client, along with some of the more evocative voice and tone used in the longer form About page.

The creator and lead host of the podcast directed me that he needed “A one-paragraph summary of the podcast for the intro paragraph of the podcast and the “Description” field on most social media.”

To me this meant the copy needed to be entertaining, attention-grabbing, evocative of tone and style consistent with the podcast itself, and informative enough to tell the audience what they will be committing an hour of their day to.

The main challenge here was to make this copy work as both an actual opening script for the beginning of the podcast, as well an informative and entertaining summary for the description field on social media sites.

Audience: I was directed to write this copy with a young adult focused male and female audience. That millennial sweet-spot, who are taste-makers and content sharers/interactors.

Being both an intro to the podcast, as well as most likely the first thing new listeners would both read and hear, I made sure to use as horror-film-friendly language and imagery as possible.

I wanted to take a slightly interested, horror-curious audience, and turn them into an audience who can’t wait to argue with the podcast’s hosts about minutia involving the genre. I did this by choosing diction and syntax to highlight the tradition of horror storytelling and give the readers a sample of the sort of discourse to come.

Results: I had a lot of fun with this one. I think it came out quite effective. While the one sentence assignment felt a bit short for my style, and the longer form felt too open-ended, this length was just right. Much like bear beds.

Ultimately, I loved the challenge of trying to write one bit of copy that could be applied to a duo of separate objectives.

Summary: Included is a google doc containing the copy for a horror film podcast’s paragraph-length summary and podcast intro paragraph.

Midnight Murderama Podcast: Web Copy, One Sentence Summary for Promotional Material

Murderama Podcast Website, Web Copy

Client: Midnight Murderama Podcast

Objective: This short copy needed to convey tone, style, voice, as well as information all in one (admittedly long) sentence. The client needed this quick and clear sentence to run on social media and brief soundbites used to promote the podcast.

The creator and lead host of the podcast directed me that he needed “A one-sentence summary of the podcast for social media promos.”

The main challenge here was to get across all the various tonal and content information that I needed to get across in just one sentence. But at the same time, that sentence needed to be not overburdened with information, so that it could still have room to persuade reluctant listeners to give the podcast a chance.

Audience: I was directed to write this copy with a young adult focused male and female audience. That millennial sweet-spot, who are taste-makers and content sharers/interactors.

Being a short, twitter-friendly promotional sentence, this content needed to be clear, concise, and memorable.

Results: I probably struggled the most on this of the 3 assignments I did for Lead Deals Productions. I am used to working in longer formats, and found myself constantly having to edit down what I wrote.

Ultimately, I loved the challenge of trying to convey so much with so little word count. Forcing oneself to write so briefly is a useful exercise in teaching a writer was is and is not necessary in their copy.

Summary: Included is a google doc containing the copy for a horror film podcast’s social media-friendly 1 sentence summary.

V|BOA: Email Announcement

Web Copy

Client: VirtualBOA – Veterans and Active Military Affinity Group Project

Objective: I was tasked with developing an email announcement for a call center regarding their new program providing affinity groups for service veterans. This specific task called for a abbreviated version of the more detailed informative web page I made for V/BOA.

The useful learning opportunity here was in the challenge of making a very direct, information-heavy, short amount of content even more brief and direct, while still containing the same amount of content.

Audience: I wrote this copy with a very specific audience in mind: VirtualBOA employees who are also in some way connected to this military. Given that I was reaching this audience via email, I decided to utilize bullet points, a generous use of white space through line breaks, and sub-headers/images to draw attention and interest from the reader.

Results: This project was a great exercise in generate similar content in different contexts. It allowed me to work on editing down my language and prioritizing information.

Summary: Included is a google doc containing the copy for a announcement email outlining a Veteran Affinity program at Virtual Business Office Associates. There is an introduction, about section, a list of services, and a contact section.

Midnight Murderama Podcast: Web Copy, About Page

Murderama Podcast Website, Web Copy

Client: Midnight Murderama Podcast

Objective: For this specific copy, the client’s instructions were precise, including some specific wording needed for a description of the podcast and its creators, but was clear in needing the style and tone of the podcast to come through.

The creator and lead host of the podcast directed me that he “needed write ups about the podcast to be used on the website” and “A multi-paragraph bio to be used in the “About Us” section of the website and on any press releases.”

The main challenge here was to get across all the various tonal and content information that I needed to get across regarding the feel of the podcast, while also reading clearly and succinctly.

Audience: I was directed to write this copy with a young adult focused male and female audience. That millennial sweet-spot, who are taste-makers and content sharers/interactors.

While the horror genre can often skew male, what sets this podcast apart is its embracing of multiple viewpoints. This, along with the research-heavy, academic based comedic approach, were necessary to be fore-fronted in the About Us section.

Hopefully this bit of copy allowed for the target audience to feel just as funny, academic, and knowledgeable as the podcast aims to be.

Results: This project allowed me to stretch my stylistic writing muscles and to really push the voice and tone to account for its specific audience. I used other successful podcast About pages as a baseline to take what I thought was working well, and leave off some of the less effective bits.

I enjoyed being able to use a little horror-film specific language and references and have bit of a playful voice.

Summary: Included is a google doc containing the copy for a horror film podcast’s web site About page. There is an introduction, explanation of content section, and a presentation of all three hosts of the show.
